alacartoona celebrated the end of 2004 with all the panache and glamour that only she can achieve. festive lights festooned the stage as she lounged upon luxurious carpets amidst tropical plants and tall glasses of gin. her attendees were resplendent in their new year's eve best. archibald, in particular, was a heavenly vision, reminding all present that one does not simply fall into the role of "international man of style".

tom stiller, brian cahill and mindy "i am your pleasure goddess" goodman, all from the farm, lent a hand with the lights, while jim skeel worked the sound board, providing aural stimulation for everyone in the room. eric price stunned the crowd, yet again, with his super-human acts of prestidigitation.

there were so many old friends on hand, it would be impossible to name them all. some in attendance must be mentioned due simply to the magnitude of their beauty. tom knittel offered his dashing good looks and elegant bow tie for alacartoona's pleasure. he also offered his wife, erika blacksher. alacartoona happily accepted both. steve mcphilliamy, chicago power broker and dealer in nepalese antiquities, attended with his delicious wife, ingrid.

gino and paetra serra added their stunning physical presence to the mix and ryan wheeler proved he is worthy of alacartoona's love by executing a full splits before the stage. and who will ever forget lindsey? certainly not ruby.

...and what better way to wind down a busy year than with an intimate show at potpie? alacartoona spent her next to last performance of 2004 with her dear friends at kansas city's best little restaurant. the spirits were weak and the flesh was willing as her adoring fans got their last taste of her love before more than a month of waiting began.

of particular interest to alacartoona were the three beauties known individually as jack hayhow, valerie anderson and kari jareske and collectively as opus communications. their images are etched upon her mind's eye, to be sure. also present was her friend (and now, if one were to believe the rumors, lover), magician eric price. if you've never seen this man's hands in action, you must. he was turning tricks (card tricks, that is) just inches from her eyes but she could never tell just were his fingers were going until they were already there.

the farm

alacartoona spent the night with john doe and everyone came away satisfied.

a beautiful young boy by the name of jake brennan opened the show with an amazing acoustic set. reminiscent of kansas city's the expassionates, jake's music was powerful, sad and sexy. as was jake.

alacartoona took to the stage next and quickly whipped the audience into an emotional froth of sadness, joy and sexual abandon. steve walker, kcur fm arts reporter and consumate snappy dresser, was one of many who lost his cabaret virginity on this evening. to be honest, they all threw it away. who cares about tomorrow, indeed?

and now a special moment of silence for john doe. there is only one and we all are lucky. that much excellence doubled might kill us all. alacartoona loves john doe.

how can this show be explained to someone who wasn't there? it would be easier to explain honor to karl rove. suffice it to say that the attendees will be talking about the events of this night (at least those events they are able to remember) for years to come.

the room was packed with so many people, it would be impossible to name everyone. alacartoona's wonderful friends ike "i drink therefore i drink" hill and latoya "prime real estate" prater brought the whole kcdrinker.com posse to the celebration. magician eric price did things with rope that were absolutely mind-boggling. andy tanner was on hand, hoping alacartoona would catch a glimpse of him and then succumb to his rugged charms. mike devine himself emerged from the shadowy realm he rules with an iron fist to prostrate himself at her feet.

alacartoona loves to spend foggy evenings in the warm embrace of a friend (or two). mano and barbara at le fou frog were happy to oblige on this night, inviting her to celebrate oktoberfest with them.

on such short notice, the venue was full of mostly new faces, with only a few of her regular devotees on hand. (most notable of these was the lovely and versatile roach from the donkey show.) this does not mean that alacartoona spent the night alone, however. rest assured she made a number of new friends...

a fascinating night at the cup & saucer, to be sure. nothing like a room full of randy rabblerousers, cheap drinks and cabaret to keep things moving along. timothy macbain dropped by and brought with him a long and lovely morsel named sarah. (providence and ruby vied for her attentions all night. it seems ruby won.) also on hand was the simply fantastic ryan wheeler - his bowler, eyeliner and attitude all well-braced for impact.

beneath tor's dimensionally challenging artwork, alacartoona ripped through three hours of sad and sexy music. later in the evening, eric "i am a beautiful man" price entertained the house by performing a magic trick that involved rope, knots and ruby falls.

"a girl's best friend is her bulldog." alacartoona will drink to that!

lovely faces and lovelier bodies were everywhere on this late summer's eve. from the two perfectly proportional firemen who stumbled upon the show and sat in awe for three hours to the table filled with nubile damsels celebrating the impending marriage of a friend, alacartoona was beside herself with love. the shockingly beautiful jason sullivan and his enticingly endowed cohort, darcy bloss, from the starpuncher coalition, held court at the bar while mindy "my smile will burn your soul" goodman and her husband, brian cahill, of the farm sat nice and close, right where alacartoona likes them.

amy nesbitt of fleming artists was a newcomer to the spectacle of alacartoona. once she regained her breath, she quickly shed her cabaret virginity, to the delight of all at her table. and finally, who there will ever forget the delicious face of eric price, who splits his time between being a magician and being a vision of physical perfection. no one, that's who.

le fou frog

alacartoona celebrated le fou frog's 9th anniversary with song, food and drink. her 'kiss for a hat' campaign, whereby any patron donning a party hat would be rewarded with a buss, was a marked success. keith buchanan, of temple slug, sported several different hats throughout the evening, claiming multiple kisses from providence and ruby, often concurrently. keith is alacartoona's kind o' guy.

cynthia walker, the golden-throated songbird of lexington avenue, fluttered in from seattle, wa, to kneel in the glory, as it were. rumor has it she left her spouse, rocco, behind to make a solo bid for alacartoona's attentions. tor, with his dapper dress and jaunty demeanor, emboldened those around him to to give voice to ecstatic utterances. acclaimed actor dean vivian thrust his beautiful wife sandy into alacartoona's arms on this, their wedding anniversary, while dave ohman did the same with his new fiance, donna. (one might suspect the boys had ulterior motives. good for them.) and who was that mysterious benefactor? alacartoona loves you and urges you to come again and again.

ah, to spend a beautiful summer's evening in a beautiful downtown venue surrounding by stunningly beautiful people. what more could alacartoona want? to be honest, her desires are insatiable but her debut at bulldog did assuage the aching need for several hours, at least. doing her part for religion, alacartoona imbibed several of the establishment's classic cocktails, born of absinthe and poured out in worship of pleasure.

the room was graced by a fine selection of the best and brightest kansas city has to offer. finnegan schall of kcdrinker.com and his talented fiance, artist lisa van sickle, expressed their appreciation with overt displays of passionate adoration. (alacartoona can never decide which of the two is sexier. luckily, they never make her choose.) the enviously long and luscious tiffany hankel illuminated her table with naught but the beauty of her face.

as a matter of interest, alacartoona chose this night to debut three new songs. the apartment and hoochy stand as testaments to alacartoona's battle cry--sex, drugs and cabaret!--while the adversary was written as the opening theme to the jon weimer film of the same name.

the brick

saturday night at the brick. the room was filled with alacartoona's soul mates: hard drinking, free-spirited, sexually ambiguous denizens of the night. speaking of which, the surnameless jason brought several somethings and one lovely other to bedeck the bar with beauty. doug hartman was so stricken, he left his establishment, bulldog, not once but twice to pay homage to lady alacartoona.

now, a rowdy cheer for the bands that shared the stage. first up was the mourning after, who dished up tales of woe and devastation until even alacartoona had to brush a tear from her eye. afterwards, the last call girls took the stage and, with it, alacartoona's heart. so beautiful, so sexy, so bad ass. if you haven't seen them, do so immediately.

such a wonderful evening at le fou frog in the rivermarket. celebrating bastille day early, francophiles and alacartoona devotees alike gathered around the outdoor stage, drinks in hand and love in their eyes. proprietors, mono and barbara rafael had never met alacartoona before this evening but an uncontrollable passion for her ignited within them, leaving them shaky-legged and soaked at the end of the evening. general manager tony glamcevski was seen clutching a photo of alacartoona and weeping, while tom moriarty moved within a shimmering circle of light which seemed to emanate directly from his rakishly beautiful face. hellvez spread his delicious darkness through the crowd while pete dulin split his time between running the outdoor grill and kneeling at alacartoona's feet.

alacartoona absolutely must mention the other amazing acts that shared the boards with her that evening. first was the coleen cassidy trio, whose tall and sexy namesake sang edith piaf tunes to the delight of the crowd. later in the evening, ron megee (bless his twisted soul) brought the combined forces of late night theater, eubank productions and the burly-q girly crew to the stage for a finale that was above and beyond merely grand.

everyone knows the farm is the place to be after the first fridays art walk. everyone also knows that a night spent with alacartoona leaves one well-spent. so what could be better than spending the night with alacartoona at the farm? that would be nothing.

so many gorgeous people gazed upon alacartoona's glory on this hot & sweaty night in july. bill pryor from kansas international film festival openly yearned for her while his daughter was overheard voicing her desire "to do something naughty." stephane suetos from exposure, inc. and the coldly beautiful w. david keith of lms films were seen whispering in the corner and throwing furtive glances towards the stage. ron and barb shaeffer were also on hand to lend an air of authenticity to the sublime debauchery of the event.

alacartoona lent her considerable talents to the progressive fundraiser known as beauty slays the beast. this was a hugely successful event for the the organizers, the benefactor and, of course, for alacartoona. it was truly thrilling to see so many new faces. it was also thrilling to catch a glimpse of the simply luscious andy tanner through the crowd. and while alacartoona is not one to spread rumors, she thinks shari elf was quite pleased to be the object of ruby's attention.

kudos to davey's uptown for making such a huge contribution of time, talent and alcohol.

alacartoona feels at home wherever she goes. however, potpie is definitely making a play to be her favorite endroit à se détendre. she will gladly tell you that this is some of the best food in kansas city, and with such a gorgeous staff, why would she want to be seen anywhere else?

the house shone bright this night with quite the gathering of illuminati. the good doctor daniel fleming and producer extraordinaire joel jenkins sat in the front row, both deeply enthralled by ruby's talents. (or, perhaps, by providence's. who's to say?) writer pete dulin made an appearance and steve tulipana arrived late with an entourage of six smartly dressed chorus girls. such beauty. such decadence. kansas city, alacartoona loves you.

alacartoona saw both new faces and old admirers on this beautiful june evening at the cup & saucer. a mysterious angel of darkness, known only as 'lady gina', coolly observed the proceedings from the bar, while the sisters capehart cavorted with ruby and providence throughout the night.

it should be noted that dave sharek tried to kill providence with a shot of whiskey apparently poured for a horse. alacartoona's revenge shall be slow and sweet.

another wonderful night at potpie in westport! this was alacartoona's final show before taking a short vacation from the stage and she made good use of it. she premiered a new song about innocence and naivete entitled fluff and tickle. ruby, as delectable as ever, led the audience in a rousing, yet bittersweet rendition of (today, my dear) i'm yours.

a gentleman in the front row was seen to wipe a tear from his eye as alacartoona left the stage. springtime would not be the same without her.

with her return to mike's tavern, alacartoona presided over a night of boisterous revelry and gratifyingly disturbing episodes of overindulgence. speaking of which, her dear friends ike and latoya from kcdrinker.com did what they do best to the best of their abilities.

an attractive young couple provided an appropriate metaphor for the evening by slow dancing to "down through the eye". only true devotees of alacartoona could fall in love to this song.

alacartoona loves potpie! the space was intimate, the food was seductive, the staff was warm and the audience was willing. film director jon weimer enjoyed the show from the front row, while scott easterday of the expassionates kept a cool distance at the end of the bar. the place was so full, parties were sharing tables and still people were turned away at the door. what can alacartoona say? she is well loved.

another first fridays afterparty at the farm (formerly the downtown gallery). alacartoona played to a packed house of veterans and first-timers. she debuted "sheets in 3", a rousing drink-along featuring archibald drexel on lead vocal, and "the honey won't soothe the sting". two young women in the audience actually swooned to ruby's rendition of "ladies" and scott curts of aka seemed to enjoy "just a drink or two" just a bit too much.

colin swaney of dbltap and beth b'2004'd of b'2004'd productions were on hand to serve refreshments to the crowd. both were caught on film and presented in the images section below for your enjoyment. all of these excellent images were captured by the wonderful matt mayfield who, it is rumored, does his best work in low light.
