...okay, a disclaimer, i love alacartoona and she has been a great friend of mike's for a long time. that being said . . . alacartoona is a merry band of accomplished local musicians. they perform a "modern cabaret" show featuring the lovely and talented ruby falls (the pitch's 2005 choice for best sexy musician, female). their show is truly a sight to behold. the music is expertly performed. it incorporates show tunes, jazz, and burlesque style music and themes. but the music is just one part of the larger show that oozes with sexiness while also including a lot of humor, crowd interplay, interplay/dialogue among the musicians and impeccable timing and commitment to the theme in all respects.

love your cd. i would love to see and hear the band live. you certainly aren't the typical kansas city blues combo. I'll bet you really stir up some heat at your live shows!

i just wanted to drop you a line to say how much of a great time i had last night at the gaslight. For an intimate venue with an eclectic crowd, you really brought the house down. my only wish is that more people could have come and appreciated the beauty and artistry of your show.

i don't know if it's the themes, the songwriting, the performances, or what it is exactly that makes alacartoona an experience i love to remember but so rarely do i come away from a show with my face aching from grinning like a schoolboy... okay, a naughty schoolboy who might just get away with it, but a schoolboy nonetheless.

until the next time, i remain a loyal fan...

i loved the show. i love the look of the band and especially your costume - wowee!

it was a fun, sexy, show, and you've got quite the voice, young lady. it's good to bachelor and the rest with you - to keep you out of trouble with the boys (or girls).

subject: my deepest condolences

... to all of you who missed alacartoona at the gaslight last night: i'm assuming you suffered some great tragedy that kept you from attending, perhaps the death of a loved one or sudden blindness... or perhaps you just didn't know, which is infinitely more sad.

word of advice, folks- the next time you have the chance to see alacartoona, DO IT! i have never seen a more charming, original and titillating performance, and i laugh derisively at all you poor saps who missed out! ha, I say! ha ha!

learn your lesson, kids, and the next time they're in town, spend the night with them-GO TO THE SHOW!

(re: gaslight - 28 sep, 2005)

ruby,

i'm still simply reeling! this morning as i whipped up a simple hollandaise for nicole's birthday breakfast, i was dancing around the kitchen, clarifying butter and whipping egg yolks to music from the show -- imagine the poor, confused little chicken embryos, rudely broken from their warm homes to the baritone strains of providence (and i, as best as i could manage) singing "willkomenn, wilkommenn...".

and i thought to myself, "hey, fuck it. they're eggs."

but that has nothing to do with my lavish praise of alacartoona -- my gods, woman, where have you four been hiding? i have seen a number of burlesque, side show and "period" acts (and I mean that in a polite way), but yours by far was the most genuine i've ever been privileged to witness, on stage or on screen. i must assume that alacartoona has no strong desire to be famous, for why else would you not be? you have everything it takes, and that's no insincere compliment.

thank you, thank you and thank you again. thank you for the performance, for being such delightful people, and most importantly, for making me look good by letting me book you -- and make no mistake, i'm going to get numerous compliments for securing your act tonight, and i plan to lap it up like pussy at the cream... and i mean THAT in a polite way.

i want alacartoona to know that i am ever your humble servant -- if there is anything i can do to bring about another performance, or promote you in any way, please don't hesitate to ask. there are a number of venues and events i have in mind that I'm going to invite you in on.

finally, i would like to offer myself at your service should there ever be anything you might think you can use me for.

once again, thank you so much!

jericho

p.s. should you and/or any of your boys ever be in lawrence, ks, and desiring someone to share cocktails and witty banter with, please do give me a call.

[flexible? richard, are you really speaking of ruby's voice?]
